Ireland: The Vulture Republic

On the second night of December in the year 2017, a large commemorative plaque was anonymously erected upon the front gable of Apollo House, an abandoned 1960s office block on the corner of Tara Street and Poolbeg Street in Dublin city center. Emblazoned at the center of the commemorative ornament, green in background, was a gold vulture poised in an inclinational posture upon the top of a broken stringed Harp, with the detached string grasped in his beak. Adjacent to such an evocative image was the name ‘Éire | Ireland’. Around the top curving frame of the commemorative plaque, it read: ‘We have people without homes and homes without people. Mission not completed.’
