Hartz IV and Matching Efficiency – or What is the Purpose of Economics?
How Germany used “neo-liberal reforms” to beggar its neighbours and continues to push the eurozone over the brink. Hartz IV (the German neo-liberal labour market reforms of 2002) was a “blessing” according to the German magazine Der Spiegel (here in German). The editor quoted a professor of economics at the University of Regensburg, who also works for the IAB (Institut für Arbeitsmarkt- und Berufsforschung) in Nuremberg, on the subject. That’s a fortunate coincidence, because last week I was invited to the University of Nuremberg to discuss this topic with a professor from the same faculty there.
